Running in circles...

During E.'s lesson on Wednesday Curly was doing his usual wandering path around the arena. Coach A decided that if he didn't want to walk in a straight line then E. should make him go in a tight circle. So E and Curly circled around a pole for 40 minutes! Then he was allowed to go in a straight line again....but as soon as he wavered from his path, back to the tight circle they went! The idea is that if she kept him in a tight circle, he might begin to realize that going in a straight line isn't such a bad deal.

I wonder how straight he'll go tomorrow....

Isn't it funny how simple straight lines and circles are the hardest things to train horses to do? Serpentines and figure eights seem so much easier!

Of course, my senior dressage mare free-lunges herself in perfect 20-meter circles whenever she's turned out in the arena or pasture.

Blessings,
Linda
